1. Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera: Masterpieces of the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection

Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera - Masterpieces of the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection

Fabulous show of paintings on loan from The Gelman Collection. It will go on to Pallant House Gallery in Chichester this summer. Includes a group of Kahlo self portraits which are seldom seen together as well as some of their drawings and a collection of photos of the artists. Ends 26th June.

2. Philip Taaffe – Anima Mundi

Philip Taaffe - Anima Mundi at IMMA Dublin

A show with 40 paintings produced in the last 10 years by Irish-American artist born in 1955. He uses graphic patterns laid over backgrounds made by felt printing and collages of translucent paper. Some of the paintings have the feeling of a kaleidoscopic image and vary in size from 2ft x 1ft to 8ft x 6ft. There is also a show of Taaffe’s recent work at the Gagosian Gallery, Kings Cross, London. Ends 14th May.

Wellcome Collection Gallery, London, NW1

3. Dirt: The Filthy Reality of Everyday Life

An interesting show in six parts covering the history of dirt from 17th century Delft in the Netherlands through to a New York landfill site, which is due to be transformed into an eco park in 2030. The section on the Dresden Museum of Hygiene built in 1930 was particularly startling with posters describing the Jews as disease carriers and early evidence of the Nazi doctrines that were emerging in Germany.

The heartbreak heart: a hand-painted plaster heart broken open to reach the piece inside

The giving

A heart they have to break

Every piece arrives in a Stephen Einhorn box. For the ones that should be remembered, we wrap the piece in soft cloth and seal it inside a plaster heart, hand painted in the colour you choose. To reach what is inside, they have to crack it open.

Engraved by hand

Almost everything we make can be engraved by hand in our workshop: initials on the face of a signet, a date inside a ring, a line only they will understand. Engraved pieces cannot be returned, so if you are unsure of the size, order it plain and we will engrave it afterwards.
